What does it take to create a successful ecommerce business? You could be a creative genius, with awe inspiring clothes designs with the power to take people’s breath away, but still fail to sell your custom merchandise. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

During our time with Moteefe, we’ve had loads of people trying to make successful campaigns. Some sellers have reached the ambitious Gold tier and beyond, while others struggle to get started. However, the one thing that the successful sellers have in common, is a strong marketing strategy.

Here are the top 19 Marketing tips that will help you have a more successful ecommerce entrepreneur career.

Back to basics

You need to know some foundational marketing skills to build your business on. These first 5 steps are the strongest foundations you can have from our point of view:

1. FIND YOUR NICHE AUDIENCE

This is THE MOST IMPORTANT part of selling products online. You have to know who you want to sell to before you do anything else.

Your design, content and marketing will all be based on your audience’s problems and needs.

Finding a niche audience shouldn’t be too difficult, everyone in the world is part of one. But if you are having trouble finding the perfect niche to sell to, or you just want to see what’s out there, have a read of this: how to find a niche audience. It will help.

2. CREATE DESIGNS BASED ON YOUR AUDIENCE

You’ll need to create designs based on your niche’s interests, problems or needs. Try to look for a gap in the market to base your design on. It’s good to look at other people’s work for inspiration, just make sure you don’t copy their work or you risk having it taken down.

If you’re not sure where to look for inspiration, there’s lots of places you can look at here

3. DESIGN FOR MORE THAN ONE PRODUCT

You don’t have to start small. The best part of selling products online through Moteefe is that it’s free. Take advantage of this by starting a clothing line. Why just make a t-shirt design when you can put the same design on a hoodie, sweatshirt and vest as well?

You only need to make sure that your designs are ready to be printed in the highest quality possible. Then you can print them on as many products as you want, remember to diversify.

4. FACEBOOK ADS

To gain the most amount of customers, you’ll want to use Facebook Ads. Facebook has recorded over 1.7 Billion monthly active users and accumulates data on each and every one of them. Advertising on Facebook gives you access to this data so that you can target your ads directly to your niche audience.

Setting up your ads is a fairly quick process if you already know have your niche audience and campaign set up. Just follow this guide to create your very own ads.

5. DOUBLE DOWN ON SUCCESS

When everything is going well and you’re selling products online with ease. Double down. Once you’ve created a system that works there’s no need to change anything. You could increase your ad spend or try and edit your audience. But you know what they say, if it aint’ broke...

Master Class

The more successful your campaigns become, the more you’ll want to refine your marketing strategy. These are the things that our very best sellers do to increase their Facebook ad success.

6. READ METRICS AND SEE WHAT WORKS

Creating a Facebook Ad was the first step in starting your advertising strategy. But it’s also vital to get technical and look at the results of your marketing. Looking at your relevance score and cost per click will give you an idea of how effective your advertisements have been and where you need to improve.

7. PLAN OUT A BUDGET

You don’t want your online advertising to cost too much money otherwise you won’t be able to enjoy all those profits. Take a look at what’s working for you and test with lower budgets.

8. SET UP A FACEBOOK PIXEL FOR USER DATA

The Facebook Pixel is THE best tool for learning about how consumers interact with your webpage. Installing the pixel is simple and will help you understand who:

  • Views your page
  • Clicks ‘Buy Now’
  • Visits the ‘Checkout’ Page
  • Makes a purchase

If you need help setting up the new pixel, or just want to know how it all works, we have a blog for that.

9. RETARGETING AUDIENCES

This tip follows on from the Facebook Pixel. Once your pixel is set up, you can use the audience data you received to re-market your product designs to people who left before buying.

The chances of selling products online to someone who has already shown interest is much higher than selling to a fresh lead.

10. USE AUDIENCE INSIGHTS

Learning how to target like a king will increase your sales by a huge margin. But if you want to target properly you’ll need to learn how to use audience insights.

Audience insights

Using audience insights on Facebook will help you keep your niche audience as specific as possible. You search for people based on interests and can then cross-reference these with other interests, finding multiple niches in the process.

Staying Social

Facebook is the main way that you’ll be making sales on Moteefe. However it isn’t the only social commerce platform that is useful for marketing your custom designed products.

11. USE THE RIGHT SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM

Sometimes Facebook might not be the best way for you to make sales. Each social media platform caters to a different audience, so finding the right platform for your audience is key.

The three main contenders are:

  1. Facebook: With the largest amount of user data, it’s targeting made simple
  2. Instagram: Growing quickly, it’s great for showcasing your designs
  3. Pinterest: Easily the best way to sell products online, but has the lowest user base

 12. CREATE A NICHE PAGE

To have the best social commerce success you should create a niche page. Then you can interact directly with your audience and potential customers. This helps you find gaps in the market and can provide inspiration.

We have a short article which will give you an idea of how to run a niche page if you want to get started now.

13. USE COMPETITIONS TO BOOST AWARENESS AND ENGAGEMENT

Buffer found that 35% of users like a page so that they can take part in contests. People love to share pages that they’re a fan of. Make sure you’re creating contests that are relevant to your audience and you’ll be gaining followers in no time.

14. PLAN OUT YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING STRATEGY

Managing your social media accounts doesn’t have to be difficult. There are plenty of companies that can help you maintain your accounts by planning out posts. Most of these companies also provide you with engagement information so you know what appeals to your consumers.

15. CREATE STRONG DESCRIPTIONS ON YOUR CAMPAIGN PAGE

The descriptions on your campaign page are a lot more important than you think. Consumers read campaign descriptions to get an idea of what the product is and decide whether they want to make a purchase or not.

Make sure that you have copy that is clear, informative and engages your audience to make the decision process a lot smoother.

16. MAKE YOUR FACEBOOK AD COPY AND IMAGE TOP QUALITY

Your advert copy and image are just as important as the item that you’re selling. Make sure that your adverts are short, direct and include a strong call to action. Adroll found that adding a CTA increased their conversion rates by 2.85x their normal rates.

17. PLAN AHEAD FOR COPYCATS

Avoiding copycats while marketing can be difficult. You want people to see your personalised designs, but you don’t your hard work to be stolen. You can stop those pesky thieves in a few ways:

  • Use URL shorteners when sharing your link
  • Block other locations from your page
  • Don’t show how many products you’ve sold
  • Don’t like your own page

Following these steps will help you keep hold of your work. For more information about these steps, click here.

18. USING COLOUR FOR YOU AUDIENCE

Colours evoke certain feelings to different audiences which means picking the right colours for your designs is hugely important. This doesn’t just apply to your designs though, as your advert images need to be able to draw people in.

If you need help using colour in your designs, you guessed it, we have a blog for that.

19. DUPLICATE YOUR BEST SELLING DESIGNS

When you’ve finished a campaign with a successful t-shirt design, you don’t have to leave it behind and move onto the next one. Slightly changing, then re-uploading old designs is the best way to make the most of each design, especially if you’ve already uploaded it to all the available products.
